I have always had a special place in my heart for Calabria. Maybe because when I was a young girl we had so many Calabrian traditions.
Both of my grandparents were born there, so the blood runs deep.
Now as a grown person I have been here many times visiting friends and even family.
The food, wine and the people are what I most enjoy! Home cooked Calabrese lunch today.
Fresh tomatoes, basil, very simply on top of mostaccioli, pesce spada with green and red peppers, simmered until it literally dances around your taste buds; pomodoro “cuore di bue” with gleaming drizzled olive oil. Zucchini and potato il forno.
Paired with Szigeti classic method and Burgandy Aligote.
Wherever I go from here, nothing will ever change putting Calabria close to my heart.
